Late again. This past week involved a significant increase of editing work that sucked hours and hours away from me. I swear creating a rhythm and routine for writing *seems* so easy but of course, is not! Oh well. Here are some recommendations to excite and intrigue you for the week ahead.
1/ This is a wonderful initiative from the National Film Board of Canada. The Curve is a collection of short films, made all across Canada. Filmmakers showcase humanity through a variety of videos all made during the Pandemic, with social distancing orders in effect.
It’s pretty cool to see so many artists creating during such distressing times. You’re guaranteed to find a film you can relate to or enjoy from this rich library.
2/ This is a wild story about a mysterious man. It’s a gripping exploration of how cold cases can be handled in 2020 and how technology impacts human needs and behaviors. I’m not usually too excited by these types of stories, but in this case, I’m eager for an answer!!
3/ This interview with AOC is a great read for any progressive American trying to wrap their minds around what’s next. I guess you don’t have to be a progressive American to read it, but it’s a great resource, so to speak, for a progressive trying to articulate thoughts on maintaining the fight for a better country. She hits it strong right of the bat with this response:
We finally have a fuller understanding of the results. What’s your macro takeaway?
Well, I think the central one is that we aren’t in a free fall to hell anymore. But whether we’re going to pick ourselves up or not is the lingering question. We paused this precipitous descent. And the question is if and how we will build ourselves back up.
On racism and the white vote:
We need to do a lot of anti-racist, deep canvassing in this country. Because if we keep losing white shares and just allowing Facebook to radicalize more and more elements of white voters and the white electorate, there’s no amount of people of color and young people that you can turn out to offset that.
But the problem is that right now, I think a lot of Dem strategy is to avoid actually working through this. Just trying to avoid poking the bear. That’s their argument with defunding police, right? To not agitate racial resentment. I don’t think that is sustainable.
After reading the interview, my major takeaway is that her patience for the Democratic party is admirable. I hope she stays with it and doesn’t leave the party. She’s too good for this shit, I know, but what a relief knowing she’s still in it and fighting.
That’s all from me. Have a great week!
