Hello hello. Who else is getting excited about Thanksgiving? It’s the best holiday. Food, family, fall. What’s not to love? Here’s hoping there’ll be lots of delicious snacks and brisk hikes in your near future as well.
On to this week’s recs:
1/ This is quite a read about NYC youth, mental health, the public school system, and money. Unsurprisingly, the wealthy are profiting and the poor are left behind.
I did not know about Carter case settlements and I have all sorts of complicated feelings on the matter. One thing I know for sure is that the system is rigged and it sucks.
The inequities are not new. Critics have long argued that money for private tuition reimbursements should instead be invested in improving services for kids with disabilities in public schools. But the costs of Carter cases to taxpayers have grown exponentially in the past decade, with payouts reaching $918 million last year.

2/ In dope science news, NASA launched its most powerful rocket in 50 years earlier this week.
It’s an uncrewed spacecraft except for the mannequin “Commander Moonikin Campos” who sits in first class. Incredible.
3/ Lastly, I enjoyed this podcast interview with Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder of Bumble. Apparently, she’s the first self-made female billionaire? It’s a thoughtful interview with some solid takeaways - mostly about staying true to yourself, owning your vulnerability, and charging forward confidently.
