Good evening, America. Another week. Dissociation feels like the way to go. Right? How to even begin to process what’s going on. Going on in the immediate, going on around the immediate and going on in the beyond. I don’t want to keep writing, weekly, about the grief and misery and death. I have nothing to contribute on that front. The only change personally, is that anxiety dreams are now a regular occurrence. So not only is there a lot of death to grapple with during waking hours, but I’m playing with death during sleep as well. Dark.
Anyway, fuck it all. Let’s talk about some interesting and different, better things.
1/ My friend Sian-Pierre made a movie. I’m so impressed and proud. It’s a film about his mother and about ageism and work and happiness. It’s about taking time for yourself. It’s really, in my opinion, about family and what family means. You can watch the film as a part of Doc Fest NYC’s virtual slate, HERE. Congrats SP! You’re incredible.
2/ I thought this piece was pretty interesting. About the comfort of eating pizza during the pandemic and the demise of the $15 salad a la sweetgreen. It’s definitely a better time to be Papa Johns then to be Sweetgreen.
3/ If you’re interested in venturing over to the before times in NYC, here’s a cool post about a typical night out.
Back before Covid, on a Friday night, the East Village had over 4,000 of drop-offs via yellow cabs between 5pm and 10pm. The solo rider chart is pretty cool, too. Definitely a fun look back to a very different time.
That’s all for today. Thanks for reading and I’ll be back next week, if not sooner.
