Oof. Brutal 24 hours. No way around it. Dems lost nearly 20 million votes this time around as compared to Biden’s run. A fact ignored at the party’s own peril.
(New Yorkers, see how we voted, here.)
It felt especially weird to suffer so greatly on an 80 degree day in November.
Susannah and I decided to watch Woman of the Hour which, while a well-done movie, was not the right choice for last night. As the final credits rolled, we sat catatonic on the couch, frozen in discomfort and depression. Misogyny, it seems, is our greatest evil. Should we move to Sweden?
It feels silly to make recommendations of things I’ve enjoyed consuming this past week. But, I will do it anyway, as I have done for the past four years. Maybe one of these links will bring you a slice of joy or boost of substance today. We all need it.
1/ Mexican TikTokers have code words to report on narco-violence without getting banned. Clever.
2/ Double whammy in this one. A great reflection on the election results as well as a guide to LES desserts.
3/ What a house.
Bonus/ Lioness is back on Paramount+ and it’s soooo funny to me that Nicole Kidman’s characters name is Kaitlyn. The show is such a hilarious take on macho war mongering from like a sexy POV. I dunno, but it’s great garbage to watch if you need an escape.
Double Bonus/ Mutual aid groups around NYC if you need to do a little good.
Thanks for reading. Keep breathing and see you next week.
