Hello hello. It’s Thursday and apologies for the late drop today. It’s been a day. I’m going to jump right into the recs for this week and hopefully will add more color and love next week.
1/ This is an interesting article on collective behavior. A few pulls I liked:
Each animal is a node in a system of influence, with the capacity to affect the behavior of its neighbors.
A rumor does not simply spread — it spreads because we spread it, even if the system is designed to facilitate capturing attention and to encourage that spread.
This overfocus on the substance makes us miss opportunities to examine the structure — and, in turn, to address the polarization, factional behavior and harmful dynamics that it sows.
(Mesmerizing is right)
2/ The above made me think of Hard Fork and some of the interviews I’ve heard on that podcast. It’s a good one if you’re interested in tech and how the tech world impacts our day-to-day.
3/ I loved reading about the disappearance of ancient bath houses. Maybe I am a gay man?
That’s all for this week.
