It’s December! Let’s jump right into the recs for this week:
1/ On November 26th, musical composer Stephen Sondheim passed away at the age of 91. Along with his incredible talent, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I loved reading this tribute. And if you want a little more, this NYT video was a nice recap of his work and life in the theatre.
Bonus musical theatre post: I loved “Tick Tick Boom” on Netflix. Andrew Garfield is incredible and I think the movie version really outshines the existing musical. Watching this little dive into that world was also quite enjoyable.
2/ For a small chunk of 2021, I would spend time daily trying to learn French. It’s a habit I’d like to pick up again, so please shame me into it. When studying, I came across this incredibly popular French youtuber called Lena. She mostly posts lifestyle content, fashion things, and the typical influencer meh. But, she recently shared a short doc about hiking Mount Kilimanjaro with her boyfriend and a few friends and it’s honestly, really good! She faces the challenge head on with honesty and humor. It’s just an enjoyable story to consume.
3/ Sometimes you need an escape to a remote cabin in southern Tasmania. This is such a beautiful home and a nice little escape video. Very refreshing.
That’s all for this week! A very special happy birthday to Dennis even though he STILL won’t subscribe to this newsletter. I guess I still love you.
Thanks for reading and feel free to share this with anyone you think may be interested. Stay warm.
