I’m writing today from upstate. Snow blankets all around. It’s chilly, but warming up (yikes) and I’ll be spending most of today researching how to make the best gingerbread house so that I can be the champion of our first ever, annual Great Sedgewood Bake Off. Tears will be shed, no doubt. But someone needs to reign supreme and it’s going to be me. Onto this week’s recs…
1/ Speaking of warming weathers and that ever-looming destruction of climate change, I found this post on our digital footprint and the environmental repercussions to be super interesting. Applying the same thought process, that of considering our physical impact on the environment, to our digital footprint, might not be such a bad idea. How do servers and clicks effect our climate? More than you’d think. There’s a lot to the piece, so dive in and then I guess, log off.
2/ As 2020 closes, I think it’s impossible to not reflect on America’s long legacy of racism, abuse, and segregation. I found this project: Ghosts of Segregation, to be a fascinating exploration of the various accounts of segregation across America.
The project is in and of itself very cool. The photographs are beautiful and the diversity of content really fascinating. It is important to note though, the immensity of the project is disheartening to say the least. Please read and share this one, it’s essential.
3/ I’ll finish with a more uplifting rec. Check out Lakwena’s beautiful work, here. The vibrant color-blocked murals she makes are breathtaking.
That’s all for this week. I’ll be posting once more from 2020 and then onto what will hopefully be a much better year!
