Good morning friends. Hope everyone had a safe and fun ringing in of the New Year. New York City is a bit quieter than usual. Year 2 of a pandemic will do that to a city, I guess. But alas, we keep moving.
On to the recs:
1/ Caitlin Flanagan is a great writer on various cultural topics, and here she turns the lens inward. Discussing aging, her cancer, and family. It’s a moving read.
2/ I’ve been listening to this super interesting podcast called Harsh Reality: The Story of Miriam Rivera on an incredibly problematic reality show from the late 90s. Trace Lysette narrates the six-episode series that dives into the making of There’s Something About Miriam, a show where 6 British men compete to win the love of Miriam, whom they don’t know is trans. To say I’m thankful for the strides we’ve made since then is an understatement.
3/ The 3 Strangest Borders. This is a cool video outlining some very odd borders across the world worth knowing about.
Thank you for reading and sharing and a special Happy Birthday to Karen Schoolman! See you next week.
