It’s been nearly a year of living with covid in America. I’ve been reflecting on the year a lot lately, trying to remember how things were in the “before-times”. Aside from general sadness, it’s interesting to think about how our minds and bodies have adjusted. From constant movement to a lot of stillness. I, for one, am very ready to move again.
A few pieces today to distract you from covid fatigue or just general malaise.
1/ This piece (The Trump administration’s terrible restaurant guests) from Moe Tkacik was kind of great. She works as a waitress at a fancy DC restaurant frequented by politicians. Needless to say, the Trump years were brutal.
2/ Ryan O’Connell’s been getting a lot of love for increasing the visibility of disabled + gay folks on TV. His show Special, based off his book, just wrapped filming season two and he’s getting some well-deserved praise for his hard work. I enjoyed this interview from The Creative Independent, where in typical O’Connell fashion, he’s authentic, a little blunt and often times very funny.
3/ Finally Kenneth Rosen wrote a book on troubled teen “treatment” facilities that came out recently. It led me to reviewing some of his older articles including this first person narrative of the time he was sent to one of those facilities. It’s an interesting read and definitely a conversation starter.
That’s all for this week!
