Hello hello. It’s another beautiful Spring day here and I’m excited to get outside for a bit.
Let’s get into the recs for today:
1/ One of my favorite contemporary-ish documentaries is Shut Up and Sing by Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck. It features The Chicks (formerly The Dixie Chicks) and the controversy over their lead singer Natalie Maine’s comments on George Bush and the Iraq War.
So when I came across this podcast episode (from back in 2021), I was excited to venture back in time. Take a listen: You're Wrong About: The Chicks vs. The Iraq War. I’ll be playing their music all day.
2/ Switching gears to housing in NYC. This is wild. Living here should not be this hard.
About a third of the families living in New York City’s homeless shelters, not including migrants, have at least one adult who gets up and goes to work.
3/ Is America past peak music festival? I love a chart about attendance. TBH I didn’t consume much Coachella content this year, so in my small world it tracks.
Bonus/ If you’re feeling lost or bored or curious, go to Wikipedia and type “Special:random”. See what comes up!
That’s all for today. Have a wonderful Thursday. Also, happy bday Pops! Love you :)
