Hello again. Happy Thursday. Three fun recs for you this week.
1/ I loved the point behind this piece: Let’s Stigmatize the Internet. I’m so ready to log off and hang out in person. To not check my phone, to put it down, maybe even forget it at home. What a thrilling, simple way to be a better person in real life.
Loved this bit:
After a year at home, we will have freedoms we didn’t have for the last year. We’ll gaze into new eyes, sit in public spaces; go to concerts; sweat on one another at gyms. And we’ll do it all without fear, hesitation, or strangeness, or reluctance. We’ll have prolonged silences with one another.
How exciting to have prolonged silences together!!
2/ This was a great little Q & A with Allison Bechdel as she promotes her third book.
“Queerness brought me into my body; therapy brought me into my feelings. With this book, I’ve tried to come back out into the world.”
I’m also kind of obsessed with this answer:
Why did you want to write a book about working out?
I couldn’t think of anything else to write about that I felt some degree of passion about in a similar way. It’s this blissful, conflict-free part of my life where I am doing something fun. It occurred to me, Why not take that blissful, conflict-free thing, turn it into a cerebral project, and ruin it for yourself? So that’s what I did.
Reading Bechdel is always such a treat.
3/ I kind of loved this super weird video from Glass Animals.
Also, If you’re into them, check out this great episode from Song Exploder about the making of “heat waves” - it’s a fun episode!
Have a great long weekend.
