Woah, what a week. I’m working on an editing project that is just a beast. I remain a doer of all things last minute, so I gotta make this week’s recs super fast and super short. So, here we go.
1/ Anna Sale wrote a book and is on an ambitious press tour. I’ve long loved Death, Sex & Money and in hearing from her again and again on various podcasts, and popping up in my newsfeeds, I thought back to some of my favorite episodes. If you’re interested, listen to Ellen Burstyn and then Holland Taylor.
Here’s the full archive.
2/ For those pondering Nomadland’s success, this piece is a great read.
I hate message movies, and speechy movies, and movies in which complex and seemingly intractable problems are solved through movie magic. I never want to see people getting out their guitars and inspiring sing-alongs, and like the Miller in The Canterbury Tales, I am a bit squeamish about farts. I can’t believe I’m watching this, I thought, but when the movie ended, I let my money ride and watched it again.
3/ Lastly, this made me laugh out loud. Straight men can be so messy sometimes! (Thanks, Susannah for sharing this with me!)
Have a great weekend and hopefully I’ll be back to Thursday releases starting next week.
