Morning! I’m on a work trip, the second in a week and somewhat thankful for the consistency of this newsletter process as I move from hotel room to hotel room.
Not only have I been traveling for shoots for work, but this week I’m launching episode episode one of the podcast I’ve been producing for several months! Very exciting day. Let’s get into the recs.
1/ I recently finished Under the Banner of Heaven. It’s a beautifully done show about a Mormon detective investigating a murder within his community in the 1980s.
The show investigates the roots of Mormonism, how fundamentalism develops and the true evil of misogyny. I found the writing to be personal and moving (the show comes from ex-Mormon Dustin Lance Black of Milk fame) and the takeaways to be really thought provoking.
Highly recommend - it’s on FX so you can watch on Hulu, too.
2/ When you’re done listening to Making the Case with Lambda Legal, go ahead and check out Persona, a new podcast from longtime podcast host and writer Evan Ratliff. The show follows one of the biggest scammers of all time, Gilbert Chikli, and it is gripping.
3/ For those of us deeply concerned about reproductive rights in this country, there’s one tiny thing you could do to help. Donate to stix, a company that sends morning-after pills to those in need. It’s a cool company.
That’s all for this week. Thanks for reading and as always feel free to share with anyone you think may be interested in reading. See you next week!
