Hello hello from Fire Island. We’ve been having a lovely time soaking up the sun and not being on tiktok. I’ve definitely needed it. The water out here is wild. You jump in and just get pummeled. Refreshing.

1/ This is really incredible. Even if just a life raft for us during the climate crisis.
The paint’s properties are almost superheroic. It can make surfaces as much as eight degrees Fahrenheit cooler than ambient air temperatures at midday, and up to 19 degrees cooler at night, reducing temperatures inside buildings and decreasing air-conditioning needs by as much as 40 percent. It is cool to the touch, even under a blazing sun, Dr. Ruan said. Unlike air-conditioners, the paint doesn’t need any energy to work, and it doesn’t warm the outside air.

3/ This is a super interesting case where artists/writers/comedians etc are suing OpenAI and other AI Language Model Software companies for stealing their copyrighted work and using it without permission or compensation. This was something I thought would happen immediately as it’s the only way AI improves - by taking and taking and taking - and no one has really consented to it! It’s also, in its scariest interpretation, how we replace artists. So I’m very curious to see how this pans out.
