Hello hello from Cherry Grove! It’s been a wonderful week of beach and boardwalk time. I can’t believe we leave here tomorrow and head back to the city. Wah.
The recharge effect has been glorious. I haven’t consumed much, honestly, but here are your recs for the week:
1/ On climate change push alerts.
The heat waves and tornadoes will keep coming for us. So next time you get a push alert, take a screenshot and heed its warnings. Even if you feel a twinge of annoyance, don’t opt out. A future alert might just save your life.
2/ Why writers are forced to become brands. An excellent read.
We live in an era in which corporate and pseudo-corporate narratives of all kinds seem unconquerable—but if you poke at them, they roll up into a ball like potato bugs and demand the violent protection of the state. When the same IP has been recycled one too many times, it starts to sound nonsensical, and right now, just as monopoly capitalism seemed to be winning on all fronts, nonsense is breaking out all over.
3/ We finished Presumed Innocent last night. Can you watch it so we can talk about the (spoilers:) “shocking, silly finale”.
I found the show entertaining throughout - despite the feeling of episodes being dragged out a bit. The acting was excellent and it was shot beautifully. Also, the ending really was surprising and had me on the edge of the cheap, prickly couch in our cherry grove rental.
If you watch it, let me know what you think.
Bonus / Really enjoying this book of essays.
That’s all for this week. Thanks as always for following along, reading and sharing. We’re coming up on my 4th year anniversary of doing this! Isn’t that insane? Ok bye.
