It’s Saturday and I was up early treating today like it’s a Friday. I’m working on an editing project that will take time every day as I navigate completing different phases through to the end of September. It works for me. This version of a work life-with intense pockets of round the clock work and then many days of not that. Who needs a conventional schedule anyway? Convention and routine are not synonyms, thankfully. It’s taken me twelve whole years to realize this. Anyway, on to today’s recommendations!
1/ Writer Cord Jefferson gave a great interview on Fresh Air this past week. He’s nominated for an Emmy for his work on The Watchmen, a must-see show on HBO. Jefferson’s been a writer for a while, from blogging at Gawker to working on various TV shows. He’s published many wonderful personal essays, which I’d highly recommend checking out (his medium is a good start). I especially appreciate his advocacy for therapy and how he articulates the ongoing reckoning with racism in America. Big fan.
2/ I’ve long been a fan of potter, Helen Levi’s ceramics work. And because my girlfriend is wonderful and my friends are wonderful, I got this cobalt mug x2 for my birthday!
Coffee legitimately tastes more delicious coming out of these blue babies. Everything she makes is beautiful. Also, loved this studio tour of her space, produced by Apartment Therapy.
3/ This web series is so great. It’s basically The Office but centered on a lesbian softball team. The jokes land, the acting is solid, and the production quality is aces.
Watching during these trying times is a bit tough though - I miss softball, and group activities, and being outside without a mask on my face. But for now, I’ll stay in and keep watching.
Ok, bye.
