It’s Friday! Everything’s a little late today, self. I moved S back home to Carmel and the morning was full of packing and driving and unpacking. I think I’m getting new moving muscles.
Ok, recommendations!
1/ I made this video a little while back and it has been getting some love, pretty consistently, on vimeo. I’m excited to share it again. I think it’s important to slow down, to take in your surroundings and breathe. I’ve always felt that Mary Oliver’s poetry does that best. She was a keen observer. Never too precious. Realistic but also deeply reflective. Anyway, I love her work and I loved filming my neighborhood in New York City. Here’s the video:
2/ BrainPickings is a wonderful site and reference for lots of incredible writing. I don’t read it as often as I’d like, but when I spend some time with it, I always feel satiated. This week’s post included a great reference to James Baldwin. This selection explores Baldwin specifically on writing and writers. It’s nice to experience the full breadth of his work, not just his brilliant commentary on race. I guess it’s all connected, but yeah, I’m a sucker for writers talking about writing.
3/ Follow my dad on Medium! I’ve been nagging him to write more stories about his past and about his thoughts on the news and issues of the day. Thankfully, he’s started to do it! You can see his posts on his medium channel, here.
Ok, bye.
