Good morning. It’s a beautiful post-storm day here in NYC. I was incredibly lucky to not have been messed with by Hurricane Ida. The impact will continue to unfold, but damn, what a mess. I’ll be quick today with my recs.
1/ I loved reading about this “super taster” in Italy teaching himself, and helping other Italians, to regain sense of smell and taste after getting covid. It’s an encouraging example of resilience and hope post-trauma. This line was especially touching:
I see the risk, outing oneself as someone who can’t smell and taste when that is your profession. But what a thing, to decide instead, that helping others was more important.
2/ I loved reading this, somewhat insane, Grub Street Diet journal. New Yorkers are the best.
3/ Finally, if you’re a fan of HBO Max shows - and come on who isn’t? - then this new podcast is a great listen. Showrunners of some of the most popular shows chat together about process, their work, and their shows. It’s a fun, easy listen.
A little bonus diddy, did you know Abe Lincoln was totally gay?
That’s all for this week. Please share with friends and thank you for subscribing. If you have your own recs, my inbox is always open. Have a great weekend.
