Hiya. Been a week! Weird not doing it daily, even though it was a quick routine, it was nice. But this is better, self. It feels more manageable and like the posts will carry a little more weight. Or at least be more worth my own time when I re-read this since no one else is reading it.
1/ I’ve found it to be a challenge to be extra creative lately. I am delivering on my editing needs, and I am coming up with creative solutions when necessary. But, in general, new creative ideas or real progress in that space seems far away. When I saw this video, by Graydon Sheppard, I thought “Damn, I want to get back into that head space.” It’s the definition of creative. It’s a story, beginning middle and end. It’s silly and clever and colorful. All the things I normally love.
Watch his short, here:
2/ Much of that lack or that inability to feel out-of-the-box creative must be a result of the state of the world. The state of my world, but also the broader world. So much feels punishingly, relentlessly, awful. Mass grief. The pandemic. The climate. So many unnecessary and brutal deaths as a result of racism and systematic oppression. It’s a heavy drop, no doubt. One thing I’m trying to look for are actionable solutions. It feels valuable listening to and reading experts on topics that overwhelm or scare me in order to get a better understanding of those topics with the hope of forming an understanding of the path ahead. I guess, really, as a way to find hope. One resource, for finding those experts and helping myself really dive into the learning I want to do has been Vox’s, The Great Rebuild. With the focus on our economy and progressive solutions, this resource offers clear and direct solutions. The sub-header reads: “The coronavirus has laid bare the flaws in our economy. Can we remake it to be more inclusive of all Americans?” Check it out if you’re in need, as I am, of a path to solutions that make a better world.
3/ Finally, I have to recommend following Bree Newsom Bass on twitter. She’s an artist and activist best known for taking down the confederate flag in South Carolina in 2015. Her tweets are so thoughtful and intense and really articulate on racism in America. It’s worth following her wise words and recalibrating.
That’s all for this week. Ok, bye.
